The Five Minute Face – A Letter to the Makeup Gods

9 Nov

Dear Makeup Gods,

I had another one of those mornings where I ask myself “Why am I rushing, again?!” Sometimes life just gets hectic and slightly out of control, and then you realize…you actually are in control because it’s your life and you’re the one making the decisions! Geesh. Well, in the midst of the craziness, I needed a quick and easy morning-makeup-can’t take longer than five minute-routine. ..and here’s how I did it…

1. Foundation (Estee Lauder Double Wear shown): It all starts with a fresh base. It’s called foundation for a reason. If you don’t start with a clean canvas, everything else you put on won’t have a clean/neat look. Whether you apply a liquid, powder, or a tinted moisturizer, apply something that matches your skin perfectly. This is only one step with the five-minute face, but a very important one indeed.

2. Concealer (Origins Quick Hide shown): If you need under eye concealer, add this step for sure. Apply concealer around the entire eye. It’s an easy and instant lift. Again, liquid or mineral/powder versions are fine.

3. Blush/Bronzer (Laura Mercier compact shown): A bronzer that is a combination of brown and pink is your best option here. A bronzer that has a lot of pink in it will do, or a compact like the one shown here, that is half pink half bronze. It’s time-saving and gives you a natural flushed, healthy look. Apply to the apples of your cheeks mainly, and lightly dust on your forehead, nose and chin.

4. Mascara: Curl those lashes, again to open up your eyes…unless you are blessed with a lovely curl already. Apply two thin coats of mascara. In order to get a thin coat, take a paper towel and literally wipe the wand clean before applying to lashes. I’ve mentioned this tip before, and it’s a great one to keep in mind. It gives a more natural appearance. I say paper towel over a tissue and toilet paper, to avoid shedding on your mascara wand.

5. Lipstick/Lipgloss (Revlon Pink Afterglow shown): Don’t be afraid of color and shine with the lips. It’s an easy way to look fresh and give yourself a pop of color, to brighten up your face! I tend to go for a peach/pink gloss myself.

Phew, and that’s it! Shouldn’t take you longer than five minutes. If it does, kick it into fifth gear and practice…and of course, have fun.

Yours truly,

FPM

P.S. Still waiting on a Sephora to open in my town…you still working on that request?

Yay! I love the 5 min face. I never spend more than 5 minutes on my makeup…being a harried housewife and all. Also, if you buy cheap tp like me…you can use it to wipe the wand with no fluff left behind.
