Makeup Motivation – Paint with Color!

28 Jul

As I fly up to Boston for a wedding I think…hmm, years ago I was so afraid to fly.  The take off made my stomach churn.  Each second of turbulence felt like I’d seen my final moments and this was it…never again would I see the days of shimmering highlighter creams, a bronzed cheek bone or a sultry smokey eye.  Okay okay, that was a little dramatic.  But I am no longer afraid of flying because of all the traveling I’ve done over the years.  Which leads me to my motivational makeup speech for the day

Don’t be afraid of color!  Add a bright color to your cheeks, your lips, your eyes.  I know it can be scary.  But with the right products and some practice…you got this!  Here’s are some ideas to give you that pop of color you’re looking for:

Stila Convertible Color – Cream Blush:  This blush comes in some great colors like Petunia (shown here) and Fuchsia.  Cream blush can be rather intimidating.  I find the easiest way to apply is with a blush brush.  Take your brush and give it a very light quick dip into your blush.  Keep in mind, a little goes a long way.  With very light pressure and a swirling motion, apply to the apples of your cheeks.  It will magically brighten up your entire face, giving a nice warm, dewy glow.

MAC Viva Glam Cyndi LipGlass:  A simple way to add color to your face is with a lip gloss.  This one happens to be after Miss Lauper herself, so of course this lip gloss delivers a fun, bright hue.  Gloss is easy to apply, and this one definitely gives you that pop!   LipGlass is fantastic, comes in a variety of bright colors, and pretty long-lasting for a gloss.

L’Oreal HiP Eye Shadow Duo in ShowyAfter applying foundation or a tinted moisturizer, add an eye shadow primer to your top lid and bottom lash line.  Using a navy blue pencil, line the top lash line.  Start close to the lashes eventually creating a thicker line.  Next, using a small eye shadow brush such as a smudger, add the brighter blue shadow directly over the liner.  Using that same shadow, add a line to your bottom lash line.  Add mascara to top and bottom lashes and you’ve got yourself a bright-eyed look!

A rule to remember with these bright hues, is to pick one pop of color for your face, and tone down the rest.  Too many bright colors in one place…can be too much of a good thing.  Have fun!
